Accessibility
We want Beverley Minster to be as welcoming and as easy to use as we can make it — both in person and online. This statement covers both: visiting the building, and reading this Companion on the web.
Visiting the Minster — access to the building
Getting in. There is level, step-free access through the accessible entrance, which has a power-assisted door and is signed from the main entrance.
Parking. There are two blue-badge spaces in the Minster car park, opposite the main entrance at the Highgate end.
Toilets and baby change. Wheelchair-accessible toilets and baby-change facilities are in the Parish Hall; any Welcomer or Virger will gladly point you to them.
Getting around and worship. There is level access across the worship areas. Wheelchair users are equally welcome to come to the altar rail for Communion or to receive at their seat. Gluten-free wafers are available at every service of Holy Communion — just ask.
Hearing. A hearing loop operates during services; switch your hearing aid to the “T” setting. It works in the central Nave, from the pulpit to the Highgate entrance, and within the Quire.
Assistance animals. Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are welcome in the Minster at all times.
Tours. The ground-floor “Exploring Beverley Minster” tour has level access.
A quieter visit. If a quieter time would make a visit easier — for example if you are autistic or find busy spaces difficult — please do get in touch and we will help you find one. Weekday mornings, outside service and tour times, are generally the calmest.
Access enquiries. Call the Minster on 01482 868540 or email minster@beverleyminster.org.uk, and see the accessibility page on the main website.
Reading the Companion — access online
This Companion is built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. It uses a skip link, a clear heading hierarchy, focusable navigation, scalable text (the A− / A / A+ control), a dark-mode option and sufficient colour contrast, and it honours your device’s reduced-motion setting. It is built to work with screen-readers.
If you find something — in the building or on this site — that does not work for you, please let us know and we will do our best to put it right.
